Expanded Youth Curfew Proposed For DC

In another move to 'fight crime' by decree the Washington, DC City Council will vote today on emergency legislation to expand the summer curfew times from 10pm weekdays (currently 11pm) and 11pm weekends (currently 12am), and raise the restricted age limit from 16 to 17.
These expanded hours will not only alienate young people from the very organized events intended to keep them occupied and off the streets in the first place but will put into effect a back-door version of the age restriction on music venues which failed to gain popular, or council, support when proposed earlier this year in an open forum.
We strongly believe that for every restriction put on young people an equal alternative should be offered. Young people are, after all, people and 'out of sight, out of mind' is simply not good enough.
