At this point, most people are fairly in-the-know regarding the assorted musical endeavors of J. Robbins. He’s been a prominent and prolific song-writer in the DC area since joining Government Issue back in 1987, on through the Jawbox days, and currently with Office of Future Plans (not to mention the various bands and projects in between). Since the release of the Office of Future Plans record, I’ve been on a bit of a listening-frenzy with J.’s music, spanning the years, and I thought I’d take a moment to share some of my favorites. This is, by no means, a complete list of J.-related projects – that would take an eternity to write and there’s only so much time in a day; this is merely a list of some highlights:

Due to the amazing demand for the new Void collection Sessions 1981-83 album we have run out of our initial stock of LPs and are waiting for a new shipment from the plant. We are now shipping all pre-orders and regulars orders for the new Void collection, Sessions 1981-83. The official release date is October 24 and you should be able to find it in your local record shop then.

The independent certification that insures that our online transactions are exchanged in a secure and encrypted environment has been renewed and is fully functional. The Dischord web-store is always hosted on a secure server but there was a delay in getting the certificate renewed which made some customers understandably wary of ordering until the issue was resolved. The Teen Idles Anniversay 6-song 7 inch has been reissued (on colored vinyl) and is available from Dischord and in stores. This 7 inch was originally released to mark the 100th release on Dischord Records in 1996.

Scream has released an EP of new material on Side One Dummy Records. Complete Control was recorded live by Dave Grohl for the Complete Control Radio show and is available on 10" vinyl with an MP3 download coupon included..

We are now shipping Edie's newest release, Love Gets Lovelier Every Day. This limited edition 3-song 7 inch features a full-length (11-song) download. Go!

We just received 4 cool new titles from M'Lady's along with a bunch of re-stocks. Yellow Fever Bermuda Triangle 7", Nature Workout 7", Talk Normal Lone General 7" and the LP version of Religious to Damn's Glass Prayer album.

D.C. rockers the Shirks keep it quick and dirty on their latest three-track 7", Cry Cry Cry, out on Grave Mistake. This band gets the face-melting done very efficiently.

We've been out of these LPs and CDs by the Make-Up and Chain and the Gang for a while. Not to worry!

We've been out of the Chalk Circle LP since the week we first got it in. We've got a few more back in stock, so snap up the only LP by the first alt-female punk or rock band to record and play live in the District. Surprisingly, this is the first time this fantastic record has seen a vinyl release.

We are now taking pre-orders for the new Joe Lally (Fugazi) record, Why Should I Get Used To It. The album, Joe's third, was recorded in Rome with band members Elisa Abela and Emanuele Tomasi. It is being released in conjunction with Joe's label, Tolotta Records. Why Should I Get Used To It will be available to ship next Monday along with two impeccable new releases from Lovitt Records: Pygmy Lush - Old Friends and Des Ark - Don't Rock the Boat, Sink the Fucker.

The latest from Zomes, Earth Grid, (Thrill Jockey) is now in stock on CD and LP! Zomes features Asa Osborne (Lungfish) on guitar. The album is "is the culmination of Osborne's years of exploring meditative modal models." Osborne is currently on tour with Skull Defekts, and will tour Europe with Kogumaza in May.

Skull Defekts, "Sweden's answer to Sonic Youth," are on tour with our own Dan Higgs in support of their Thrill Jockey release, Peer Amid, which features the Lungfish frontman. Catch them on the East Coast this week! Read some positive reviews of the album here, here and here.

We've got the latest release from D.C.-bred drummer Andrew Black, "Mozart Place." The A-side features plenty of go-go flavor, "Mozart Place" combines the kit, congas, tambourine and cowbell in a blend that pays homage to the genre, which, like Black, was born in and around the District. The track is backed with another instrumental, "Arpeggiator 2.0," which includes a live drum track over a sample of Fugazi's "Arpeggiator."

Title Tracks, featuring John Davis of Q and Not U, are about to head out on a European tour in support of the band's second full-length, In Blank, due out next month.

We've got three FOUR new releases that we are carrying from three FOUR members of the extended Dischord fraternity: J. Robbins' (Jawbox) new band Office of Future Plans has just released a fine new single (limited to 500); Ian Svenonius (Nation of Ulysses, Make-Up) has released a new album, Music's Not for Everyone from his new band, Chain & the Gang; Dan Higgs has joined Sweden's Skull Defekts on their new album, Peer Amid; And finally, Harris Klahr (ex-Q And Not U) has a new single from his new band, Clear Band.

Fred Erskine, who played bass in Hoover, has a new band called Freddie T. and the People. The uptempo debut album, People In, can be previewed here before your purchase!

Beginning this Saturday, February 12, the National Gallery will highlight the work of Jem Cohen, who directed the Fugazi documentary Instrument. Cohen will present shorts and excerpts from works in progress along with the film. Fugazi members will be in attendance at a screening of the film on February 27.
