On Sunday June 17th 'Hear Mount Pleasant', a group of residents from Mount Pleasant in Washington DC, is putting on a mini-festival in Lamont Park to showcase the musical diversity of the neighborhood and challenge the 10 year old ban on live music imposed on the neighborhood's bars and restaurants.
The festival will feature live art demos, a sound installation, kid's activities, tabling by various local groups and a performance by Antelope (at 5pm). Lamont Park is located at Mount Pleasant and Lamont Streets NW, in Washington, DC.
Over the last ten years a private citizens group pressured all the neighborhood's restaurants to give up their ability to host live , even acoustic music. Now a range of artists, musicians and community groups are fighting back and trying to overturn the ban and bring back the ability of restaurants to host music in a responsible way.
'Hear Mount Pleasant' is organizing a series of mini-festivals this year to build support for the campaign and to showcase the contributions musicians and artists make to building vibrant communities.
